The artist Boris Donev is among the best-known and most established Bulgarian iconographers. His icons can be found in private collections, churches, galleries, and public buildings in Bulgaria, the United States, England, Greece, Romania, and many other countries.

In 2004, he took an examination in Church painting before the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, thereby obtaining the right to paint icons recognized by the canon and to decorate churches.

Boris Donev has been commissioned to paint the frescoes at the entrance to the Athonite monastery and to participate in the restoration of Zograph Monastery on Mount Athos. He is the first iconographer to paint there after Zahari Zograf and Dimitar Mollerov Zograf.

The artist has participated in painting more than 20 religious buildings—monasteries, churches, and chapels. These include the Convent in Samokov, Troyan Monastery, St. George Monastery in Plovdiv, Belashtitsa village, St. Anne Chapel in the Maksi residential complex in Sofia’s Hladilnika district, St. George Chapel in Tsarsko Selo, Sofia, as well as churches in Ognyanovo, Bansko, and Gotse Delchev.

Icons by Boris Donev have been presented to Pope John Paul II, while President Petar Stoyanov carried one of his icons as a gift when he met Bill Clinton in the United States.
